Matthias Jabs è nato il 25 ottobre 1955 ad Hannover. È conosciuto come il chitarrista solista della band tedesca Scorpions.
Biografia
Prima di entrare negli Scorpions, aveva militato nei Lady, nei Fargo e Deadlock. Nel 1978-79, dopo la dipartita dagli Scorpions di Uli John Roth, entra a far patrte del gruppo dopo aver partecipato ad un provino.
Nel 1979 esce l'album del suo esordio sulla scena musicale, Lovedrive, che con il suo sound particolare contribuirà molto alla definizione sonora della band. Gli album successivi non fanno che consacrare il nome di Matthias Jabs come quello di virtuoso chitarrista: entrano a far parte della storia della musica assoli come quelli di "Rock You Like A Hurricane" e "No One Like You".
Per la fabbrica di chitarre americane Gibson - marca della quale faceva largo utilizzo - nei primi anni 80 crea l'Explorer 90, chitarra con il corpo di una Gibson Explorer ridotto del 10% (da cui il nome), prima di passare alle chitarre Dommenget, per le quali è l'endorser assieme al chitarrista Rudolf Shenker ed il cantante Klaus Meine, e ha prodotto l'edizione "Galaxia" ed acustica, assieme ad altre edizioni firmate da Jabs, della stessa Explorer.
Nonostante da molti sia ritenuto forse il membro più "tecnicamente" dotato del gruppo, l'unica canzone da lui totalmente scritta è "Six String Sting", a dire il vero più improvvisazione che partitura, nella quale l'unico strumento è la chitarra.
